EVERYONE CAN SING... It's just a matter of whether the public like your style or not. :'D

Just wondering...
Say I were to choose a song used as an anime intro.
Would it be better to sing the full song? Or the "intro version"?
Meaning instead of the 4 minute full song, it might be like... a 1-2 minute song.
Assuming this was for the actual rounds of the contest.

Good question! From the first post,
Like auditions, Round #1 will ideally run for about 2 Hours, allowing roughly 4-5 minutes at most per song. This will also give the judges more time to critique, as well as give the contestants the feedback they'd like. There would also be intermittent performances by myself and some others ideally, at the beginning, and as needed throughout (eg. during judges' final deliberation). The judges would cut down the performers to 6 people for the semi-finals on Saturday.

Round #2 would run for about an hour to an hour and a half, allowing once again for 4-5 minutes per song. This again will allow the judges more time to vocally critique each contestant. Once again, we may have performances from past idol winners perhaps to help fill time while the judges deliberate and choose the 3 overall finalists.

^Oh, that's true.. I guess I just got mixed up cause they wanted about a 2 minute audition song.
But if there's enough time for the full song, that's good! XD I think...

One more question though - would that mean about 24 people will be in round one? How will those people be chosen? ie. Will we have to stay after we have auditioned to see who the judges picked? Or will it be like American Idol - if you're good, you get a "ticket"?

Woah, 24 people! That would mean quite a long show.
Working backwards,

(3 people for finals/3rd round) x 2 = (6 people for second round)
(6 people for second round) x 2 = (12 people for first round)

You'll have to stick around until the end of auditions to see if you've passed to the next round. Contestants are rated in a few categories and the top 12 scores are chosen after everyone has had their turn. We have had cases were 13 are chosen [for the first round] due to a tie in scores. Similar situations also happen in the latter rounds.

I remember this ridiculous math textbook we used in grade 4 that got me caught on question like these. I hated that textbook.

Math-talking, 120/5 = 24, but remember there's still
-Jeremy's introduction
-contestants walking on and off stage
-[hopefully not] equipment malfunctioning
-the panel before us running overtime into our time
-Judges sorting out scores
-the list goes on and on and on...

Those all take up a surprising amount of time. 2 hours does sound like overkill, but it's certainly better to be safe than sorry. Hooray for Jeremy and his planning!
