Ripped

Discussion about, promotion for, and general discussion of events

Postby shigi » Tue Jun 26, 2012 11:21 pm

Day 2 - 4:00-7:00 pm

Based around the combination of the cooking competition Chopped and cosplay sewing competitions, Ripped is a competition where cosplayers are given a basket of random material that they must use in order to create a cosplay within a 2 hour time limit.

Cosplayers will be tested on their sewing skills and creativity as they battle against the clock in order to become the Ripped champion.

Judges will be looking for:
Creativity: /25
Quality: /25
Material [did they use all of it?]: /10
Overall look: / 40

This event is heavily based on the amount of interest in terms of competitors as well for sewing machines. [eg. If less then 2 groups do not enter it will be cancelled, if I cannot get more then 2 sewing machines there will be a max of only 2 groups for this competition]

Rules:

- Due to the time limit the competition will allow people to enter in a group of maximum 4 people with a minimum of 2 people [one is the team leader and one must be the model they cannot be the same person].

- Like in Chopped, the teams must use all the materials in the basket given to them in some way or points will be deducted.

- The fabric given to them must be used as the main base cloth of the costume being made.

- There is a 10 min time limit to allow the model to change into the outfit, if your model is not ready your team will unfortunately be disqualified.

- Models may not have their make-up already and/or have a wig on. It is expected that this will be done during the competition if not during the change time.

- Teams are not allowed to eat during the competition as it may risk getting the costume dirty/ruining the costume [Their own or other's], so it is highly suggested that competitors eat prior to the competition.

Things to note:

- The machines used in the competition are strictly borrowed for the purpose of this competition with a set number of needles.

- In the unlikely event that a machine is broken by a team, they are expected to pay for the repairs the machine may require, if not buy the owner a new machine. [There will be a liability form to be filled out because of this]

- There will be no extra needles aside from the ones given to them [2-3 extra needles of each type]

- There will only be basic thread colours such as white and black available to use, random buttons, random zippers, hooks and eyes, pattern paper, measuring tape, scissors, seam rippers, chalk and needles.

- Teams cannot use fabric other then the one given to them in the basket

- Teams are allowed to bring extra supplies [eg. thread, notions, closures, scissors, seam rippers and ect. ]

- While it is not required Teams are recommended to bring their own wigs, hair spray, and make-up to further your presentation

- Above all everyone must be respectful to others or risk being disqualified/removed from the competition area.

- There will be a 10 min review time to briefly introduce teams and judges, and go over the rules once more.

- 20 mins will be given so judges can give their comments on the outfits and 5 mins to total up the score and the winner will be announced.

Hey, I am willing to join this. I'm not sure how many people have signed up, but I have a group of 4. And if sewing machines are needed I can always just bring my own. Also is ribbon and little finishing things allowed to be brought? or only threads and small tools?
If there isn't any other teams my group can probably split into 2 groups of 2. But I'd love to have some real competition.

Hi!

Oh my goodness @ w@ll i was really worried that no one would be interested! /So basically no one has signed up for it as of yet;;;; Feel free to spread the word and get some more competition hahaha/

You're allowed to bring all those things, mainly because the material will be very limited on my part. The only thing you cannot bring is the fabric as it will be provided by me for this event.

Hopefully your team doesn't need to split up but i can't guarantee how many people will sign up. At the moment it's first come first serve in signing up [due to the sewing machine limit] but if more teams are interested and you can bring a sewing machine that would be wonderful!

I'm going to be in Cosplay while competing. I don't think it matters as long as the model changes for the finished showing.

Sorry for the late reply!

Umm.. preferably the one being the model [model and leader being two different people] should not be in cosplay as it would be a huge bother/unfair to the other possible competitors. Reason being:

- Depending on what costume idea you may come up with, the model does not need to go wash all his/her make-up off in order to suit the new outfit [you may apply during the competition]

- the time to change out of one cosplay into another can be hectic since there is a 10 min time limit [plan ahead]

Also note that if your team plans on bringing wigs to wear with the costume i must request that they are unstyled prior to the event to be fair. [you may style during the competition]

If you'd like to participate while in cosplay [sewing wise] it is ok, however not recommended ask your cosplay may get in the way. I can't guarantee the safety of your cosplay [and possibly yourself] during the compeition if you decide to cosplay during it.
The decision is yours to cosplay during or not, but please remember the risks that may happen!
