Photoshoot rules?!

Postby norimaki » Thu Apr 19, 2012 7:54 pm

Are there any rules/hate to people like me (not in cosplay) coming to a photoshoot just to uh...watch....lol
since I don't cosplay I've never been to one...and I am too scared to go to one...in case I ever get rejected.
It's not like I have an awesome camera or anything lol

From the one I've been to and what I've heard from other cosplay friends, it's generally pretty chill to have non-cosplayers watch. o vo)b
Cosplaying:
Marisa Kirisame (Touhou) - 2012
Naoto Shirogane (Persona 4) - 2012
Rin Okumura (Ao no Exorcist) - 2012

Well if there wasn't anyone taking photos, it wouldn't be much of a photoshoot ;) Don't feel shy about asking for pics, most cosplayers (myself included) love posing for pictures. We take it as a compliment and it's part of the reason we cosplay in the first place. Just make sure to ask permission, say thank you etc.

Relax! You'll be alright!

A photoshoot is basically an event where cosplayers of the same series meet in one place for other people to take photos of them. It's not a problem at all if you're not in cosplay... I'd say most of the photographers themselves aren't cosplaying. Besides, there's no rule saying you can't enter an anime convention without cosplaying. If you're there to take pics, all you gotta do is show up and take pics! It's simple as that.
Also, there's no reason to fear being rejected... I've never even thought of rejection from a photoshoot possible until you mentioned it. Well, as a photographer, I'd say you have an extremely low chance of rejection, because taking photos of cosplayers is what the photoshoot is there for in the first place. You'd have to do something really stupid to get kicked out... I can't even think of an example. (That's how hard it is to get kicked out, haha)

I personally have only participated in a photoshoot as a cosplayer once, and I'd say all the stress is on the cosplayers. You get a limited amount of time to decide what scenario or pairing you want/get onto the central place where everyone's aiming their cameras/pose/ get off. So relax! It's just a fun social event that fellow anime lovers organize so everyone can have fun. :)

I've been to several photoshoots and cosplayed in 2 and I find I prefer taking photos to cosplaying, mostly cuz my cosplay interferes with my photo-taking lol

Hmm...

Usually it's nice if the photoshoot is well organized and someone takes direction on leading the cosplayers.

Also, if you see a cosplayer who is taking a break or standing on the side while their character isn't getting photographed, feel free to ask them for a photograph! :D

I've been involved in multiple shoots, modeling, and cosplaying for over three years now. :3 I love it.
Anime Revolution Cosplay Plans:
Super Sailor Moon
Small Lady Serenity
Tinker Bell
