Good Sushi Places Near the Con?

General questions and discussion about the convention

Postby the404s » Wed Jul 18, 2012 3:39 pm

Hi! Asking this on behalf of several sushi-loving improv comedians coming down to AR. :)

Between improv shows on the con weekend, we're hoping to take in some honest-to-goodness local sushi! We live in Alberta, where the only "fresh" fish is rainbow trout, and every piece of sushi is imported from somewhere really far away. We're hoping, praying, dying to sample some local sushi cuisine!

So, we're looking for suggestions for sushi places, hopefully within walking distance of the con. Price is something of a factor (we're artists, i.e. we ain't rich!) but on the other hand it's not every day we can eat sushi that isn't trucked over the Rocky Mountains.

Please post your suggestions here! And if/when we can get away, we'll post on our Twitter feed @the404s where people can find us, if they wanna join in. :)

I would recommend Shabusen :) AYCE Sushi + Korean BBQ! It's a bit pricey though at $25.00/ person but it's very good.
It's about a good 7ish walk from the convention centre going down Burrard Street. It's in the same building as Hermes on the second level - it's right accross from the Fairmont Vancouver.

Shabusen has an awesome buffet! You can also try Hapa Izakaya (Coal Harbour) which is like a few minutes away from VCEC. This link is also helpful: http://www.urbanspoon.com/ps/14/8531/va ... estaurants Thank you! :D

Speaking of Hapa Izakaya... GROUPON DEAL!

I looked the location up in Google Maps and it's about a 20 min walk...although Google Maps might be overestimating it, so maybe around 10-15 minish? :)

Sushi Zero One is my favorite sushi spot near Canada Place. It is a hole in the wall so get your food to go.
There an an H-Mart in the area which is good for korean food and has one sushi place in it.

Their lunch all you can eat (AYCE) is only $13. Best deal in downtown vancouver and it's sushi and Korean BBQ :)

Actually the Coal Harbour location is literally across the street. 2 mins MAX.

Also Miku is right there as well. Both on the rather expensive side, but what isn't in Vancouver? That groupon deal makes it almost a no brainer though. Negitoro... chicken karaage... YUM!!!

Almost forgot Fujiya. Everyone knows about the Clark drive location, but they do also have a small one downtown. Its more of a grab and go type of place, but if your itchin for a quick fix, this may be the best bang for your buck. http://www.fujiya.ca/aboutFujiya/fujiya ... wntown.asp

Not sure about Sushi but dude: Kobe Steak House is like a couple blocks away! :D
Be it the toss of a saber, the catch of a rifle, the blockage of colour from the flags during the final feature, or the graceful dancing through out the show, this is what makes the sport of the arts my anti-drug.
