Suggest Me Anime: I'm an Anime Noob

Discussion about, promotion for, and general discussion of events

Postby twtmc » Wed Feb 22, 2012 9:53 pm

This is a panel that I helped out with at Tsukino-Con and absolutely loved, so I'm thinking of bringing it out to other conventions that the original creator can't make it to. The general idea is that I show the audience a picture or short video clip of an anime and the crowd has to sell me the idea that I have to watch it because, frankly, I stopped watching anime ages ago and I can't seem to get back into it for the life of me.

If I were to open up an email account for this, would people actually send me short clips or photos and then show up to the panel to try and sell me on a series?

Eh, that's hard to say...
Though instead of just making it about selling YOU the idea, you can try making an anime recommendation panel to the general public... Or somewhere along those lines. I'm sure that way, many people, regardless if they're noob or not would be attracted to the panel.

On a side note, I would spam your e-mail with recommendations if this actually gets through.

Well I say "sell it to me" because I'm the guy at the front of the room running the thing. Obviously since everyone else is there too they will hear everything that is said. If I open it up to "suggest an anime to everyone then everyone discuss" it will take some amazing room moderation to actually finish up a segment on a suggestion within a reasonable amount of time.

I would highly recommend bible black. You are not an anime fan unless you've watched it.

No. Don't. That scarred me. Just no.

Discuss? What, I thought this was more like suggest the thing and get a few people to list the pro/cons.

That is it. When they recommend them to me I can ask for clarifications and skew what they say. I managed to link Pokemon into Dexter at the last one.

What is this I don't eve-- Really? Pokemon?

You've got to put some restrictions to the recommends... Or else Pokemon will be recommended. Or Yugioh. Or even Sailor Moon. Or even Boku no Pico or Bible Black for the trolls.

When I say restrictions, I mean more of the "No porn of any kind" and "No painfully famous ones that everyone knows about".... Like Pokemon.

Lol not to be rude or anything but this isn't the "basics of running a panel" thread. I'm fully aware of limitations that need to be put into place for recommending stuff. As I said, I've run the panel before, I just want to know if people would actually be willing to email me content to use.
