Hey I'm looking for clarification after reading the policy (which I read awhile ago!! just figured I should probably ask now that the con is coming up ><!)...

I am making a staff/spear, and it's a transformable staff.... but in order to make it transform, it'll have to be made out of metal or pvc pipes (for the staff handle!! the tip part is made out of foam so no worries there :P). Would I be allowed to make the handle part out of metal, or should I forget it and stick to PVC pipes? There would also be chains inside... but I'm going to be using plastic chains. That's okay too, right?

Thanks!

i have a metal katana i was planning to bring, and although it is as dull as a spoon i can understand if you wouldn't allow it. if i managed to bond the sheath to the sword, would it be allowed? or even if i duct taped the entire blade? unfortunately i didnt read this draft before buying my prop, but im hoping theres some way i can modify it so it would be permissable

My apologies. I am Sorry for the late reply, as I have been away for a week:

@ Simplee - To answer all of your questions - Yes you would be allowed, as long as the metal is just the handle part of the staff. If you have a pic and some time throw it up here and i can look at it further, but from what you have described this would be allowed.

@ Animerican: This is a tough one. Its hard to say yes bring a real sword, as we have to follow the guidelines and policies set out in accordance with the Vancouver Convention Center and the Vancouver Police Department. I would have say No, because it is a real sword.

Although - and give me a couple days to find out with VCC/VPD- If you could secured the blade to the sheath and prove that it could not be easily unsheathed or drawn or brandished, then it may be allowed. I will ask this question and get a better answer for you.

Hello,

I read through the document outlining the weapons policy, and I believe this will be okay, but I figured it couldnt hurt to get some clarification c:
I'm cosplaying Gunji from Togainu no Chi- otherwise known as this guy: http://www.google.ca/imgres?q=gunji+togainu+no+chi&um=1&hl=en&sa=N&rlz=1R2SUNC_enCA374&biw=1366&bih=572&tbm=isch&tbnid=YvJtoXY1Ayt7TM:&imgrefurl=http://theprimalfear.wordpress.com/2010/11/20/whiskey-hova-is-visz-ki/&docid=uQKnz-PENrPKuM&imgurl=http://theprimalfear.files.wordpress.com/2010/11/gunji.png&w=524&h=600&ei=2I4JUM2WII79qQH81qCtCg&zoom=1 and http://www.google.ca/imgres?q=gunji+togainu+no+chi+claws&um=1&hl=en&rlz=1R2SUNC_enCA374&biw=1366&bih=572&tbm=isch&tbnid=7fToPnCbdGUANM:&imgrefurl=http://www.zerochan.net/291099&docid=1PfpP6uYqao--M&imgurl=http://static.zerochan.net/Gunji.full.291099.jpg&w=557&h=699&ei=iIsJULXvHo-ArQGH44XBCg&zoom=1
And I was curious about whether or not his 'claws' would need to be peacebonded? I wanted to ask because they're a bit of a funky mix of a knife (which I'm assuming would need to be bonded) and a glove (which obviously wouldnt), and I'm not sure where something that is a half prop, half weapon would sit amoungst the guidelines. I'm making them solely out of cardboard and spray paint, so there's no danger to anyone being hurt or cut by them.

Thanks so much for your help- and I'm happy to answer any further questions. I know this is a bit of an odd one!

Hey clutter,

From what you have described on the materials and design (cardboard and spray paint), you might just get a quick inspection on-site by one of us, but it should be fine in my opinion. Sgt Stewart has the final call on any objections.

Thanks both of you. :'3
I guess I'll just bring them over to the table at the convention and we can see what everyone thinks there, as you both have differing opinions on it. Which is totally fair enough~ As I mentioned, its definately a weird one to try and figure out.
I was just thinking it might be alright because its not like they're something that could be easily mistaken for real, unlike say, a prop katana.

Thanks again~

Clutter,

They would have to be peace bonded, but we could peace bond your gloves so you can partially hide the peace bond tape for photo opportunities. The Peace bond tape would have to stay on at all times though. Cardboard and Spray paint will be appropriate materials as well. I hope this answers your question.
